Coldplay est un groupe britannique créé en 1998.
Il se compose du chanteur Chris Martin , du guitariste Jonny Buckland , du bassiste Guy Berryman et du batteur Will Champion . De genre pop le groupe a su se démarquer et remporte toutes les catégories de la "Brit Pop's league". Avec le romantisme et chanson et le style de voix de Chris Martin ils remporte en grand succés dans la jeune génération.


Le groupe se produit pour la première fois à Manchester l'année de sa création et sortson premier EP titres « The Safety ». Le groupe se fait alors remarquer par le label Fierce Panda, puis par Parlophone, et enregistre en 1999 le maxi single « Brothers & Sisters » ainsi qu'un nouvel EP, « The Blue Room ».Le titre Parachutes en particulier a connu un grand succés. Le roupe sort ensuite A Rush Of Blood To The Head en 2002 , un album magistral et audacieux . Autres gros succés Speed of Sound et Clocks (qui remporta un Grammy Award).

Coldplay est engagé dans des causes sociales, comme le commerce équitable, et soutient également des groupes de pression comme Amnesty International.


Le 15 janvier 2006, le groupe annonce qu'il arrête de chanter pour « de nombreuses années » provoquant un silence dans la salle des Brit Awards. Il s'avère qu'en fait Chris Martin voulait juste dire que le groupe allait faire une courte pause afin de se consacrer à des collobarations avec d'autres chanteurs, avant d'entamer la préparation de leur nouvel album. Leur dernier album intitulé Viva la Vida Or Death And All his Friends est sorti en France le 16 juin 2008
